Monitoring for Sea Star Wasting this weekend!

This May 16, 2014 photo provided by Oregon State University shows an ochre sea star with one leg disintegrating from star wasting syndrome on the Oregon Coast. (AP Photo/Oregon State University, Elizabeth Cherny-Chipman). Taken from www.OregonLive.com

Good morning TCS faithfuls, hopefuls, and those just barely interested,

This weekend on Sunday, November 2nd, we will be meeting at the Boiler Bay at 2:15 pm to catch the low tide and collect data for Coast Watch on purple sea stars exhibiting symptoms of sea star wasting syndrome. This is a great opportunity for those of you looking to get more experience doing field work, or in getting involved with an important coastal issue. Plus, it's a lot of fun to go tidepooling with friends and to look at all the neat rocky intertidal critters :).

For those interested you do NOT have to be a member of TCS to attend, though obviously I would encourage you to join if you enjoy the event. We will meet at the park overlooking the bay which is just south of Lincoln City, and then ferry people over to the small parking area where we can climb down. Make sure to wear footwear with good traction and to bring rain gear!

Hope to see you there!

*Carpooling options available. Email tcsosu@gmail.com for more info.*
