Thank you for visiting our website! You could not have picked a better time. We have recently merged our chapter of The Coastal Society with OSU's American Fisheries Society (AFS) and The Wildlife Society's (TWS) student chapters.

Don't worry though; TCS is still very much alive and active. We recently held elections and I am very pleased to introduce the new leadership team:

Chelsea Duke (President of TCS/AFS/TWS student chapters)
Ciera Edison (Vice President of TCS, Board Member of AFS/TWS)
Ashley Yarbrough (Secretary of TCS, Board Member of AFS/TWS)
David Hessler (Treasurer of TCS, Board Member of AFS/TWS).

We also have an OSU intern taking over the coordination of our Boiler Bay monitoring efforts! This means more trips more often, and at lower tides - We just saw a juvenile Pacific Giant Octopus in the tidepools just last week!

I could not be more pleased to be passing the torch to these 5 talented students, and friends. They have a lot of awesome plans for our chapter, so be on the lookout for their contact information, and future posts about activities.

For a post-script I would like to thank everyone who ever participated in our events, or even just contacted me to find out what we're about. It has been a very rewarding experience to found OSU's chapter of TCS, and I cannot thank my officers enough for helping bring these plans to fruition.

I wish you all the best,

Matt Damiano (Founder, and former President of TCS)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03395599317103486527noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7182575648966024793.post-24531392364630969982015-04-11T14:22:00.000-07:002015-04-11T14:22:06.123-07:00Upcoming Events!Mon.
Apr 16 - Spring TCS meeting and elections
The chapter will be meeting this week for prospective officers to introduce themselves and for voting to commence. Results will be tallied over the weekend and the 2015-2016 TCS leadership will be announced on Monday Apr. 20th.

Sat. Apr 18 - Lincoln City Earth Day
The event is on Saturday April 18th from 11am to 2pm and is put on by North Lincoln Sanitary Service. There will be live music, food, and beer from a local brewery.
Sat. May 16 - Hands across the Sand
Interested in environmental activism? This event is hosted by The Surfrider Foundation and protests withdrawals of conservation areas for oil drilling. See http://www.handsacrossthesand.com/ for details.
This weekend on Sunday, November 2nd, we will be meeting at the Boiler Bay at 2:15 pm to catch the low tide and collect data for Coast Watch on purple sea stars exhibiting symptoms of sea star wasting syndrome. This is a great opportunity for those of you looking to get more experience doing field work, or in getting involved with an important coastal issue. Plus, it's a lot of fun to go tidepooling with friends and to look at all the neat rocky intertidal critters :).

For those interested you do NOT have to be a member of TCS to attend, though obviously I would encourage you to join if you enjoy the event. We will meet at the park overlooking the bay which is just south of Lincoln City, and then ferry people over to the small parking area where we can climb down. Make sure to wear footwear with good traction and to bring rain gear!
